Wind breaks, Northern Kazakhstan

What seems like walls or fences are actually linear windbreaks created by rows of densely planted trees that surround farms in this winter landscape near the town of Komsomolets in northern Kazakhstan.

Tree windbreaks are an option to reduce water consumption in irrigated agriculture and build resilience against climate change in the region.
