Empty Quarter, Saudi Arabia
White pinpricks of clouds cast ebony shadows over the Rub 'al Khali desert, commonly known as the 'Empty Quarter', near the border between Saudi Arabia and Yemen.
Highland ridges like the one in the center of the image are high enough to disturb the flow of the sand lines that, sculpted by the wind, are characteristic of these immense sand deserts, or seas of sand.
The Rub ‘al Khali is the largest such desert in the world.
